You can now reply to interests - and message privately
Matchmaker.lk has always been free to list on and free to be contacted through, and that has not changed. What has changed is what happens after somebody shows interest in your profile.
You can now reply, on the site
Until now an interest request arrived as an email, and that was the end of it. There was no way to answer here. You either replied from your own email address, giving away a private detail before you were ready, or you did nothing and the other family never knew where they stood.
Now every interest waits for you at My Account → Messages, with the sender's profile card beside their message, and you choose one of three things:
- Accept — a private conversation opens between the two of you here on Matchmaker.lk. Your email address and phone number are still never shared.
- Decline — the request closes quietly. They are never told why, and they cannot send you another one for 30 days.
- Block — they can never contact you again, your two profiles disappear from each other across the whole site, and they are not told. You do not need to ask us first.
Nothing to set up. If you have an account, it is already there.
Conversations only open when you say yes
This is the part we care most about. Nobody can start a conversation with you out of the blue. A conversation exists because you accepted it, and never any other way. Someone who has not been accepted gets exactly one message — the interest request — and no more.
There are limits inside a conversation too, and they are there on purpose:
- Three messages in a row. If you have sent three and the other person has not replied, you wait. Nobody gets to fill someone's inbox because they went quiet.
- Ten messages a day to any one person.
- Text only. No photos, files or links can be sent in a message. This one is deliberate, and we would rather be strict about it than sorry.
You can block or report anyone from inside a conversation at any point, however long it has been going.
Please read this part carefully
Matchmaker.lk will never ask you for money. Neither should a genuine match, or their family, or an agent claiming to act for them.
Never send money, never share bank or card details, and never act on a job offer, visa offer or investment from somebody you met here — no matter how convincing the story or how urgent they say it is. This is the most common way people are cheated on matrimony sites everywhere in the world, and Sri Lanka is no exception.
If anyone asks you for money, block them and tell us. It takes one click and they are never told you did it.
What we can see, honestly
Messages you send through Matchmaker.lk are stored on our servers, and our team can read them — to investigate a report, to act on a block, and to check messages our automatic filters flag, such as those mentioning money or bank details. We do not read conversations for any other reason, and we never sell them, publish them or share them with anyone.
We would rather tell you this plainly than let you assume otherwise. It is written into our Privacy Policy as well. When you are comfortable moving to a phone call, do — that is a normal step, and for most families it is the point of all this.
Still free
No listing fee. No fee to be contacted. No paywall in front of your messages, and no limit hidden behind a payment. If Matchmaker.lk has been useful to your family, the thing that helps us most is a Google review — that is how the next family finds us.
